Have you heard about the Circle of Neglect?
Maybe you know it by a different name, like “The Neglectosaucer”, but it is essentially a circle where the baby is trapped in, surrounded by toys that make all sorts of movements, sqweeks, and even some squacks.
I think the proper name is the “Activity Saucer”, or the “Jumperoo”. Who knows what it is called, but it is a really fantastic product for babies around 4 to 6 months of age.
The issue with the Circle of Neglect is that the window for use is really short, just a few months. Then you are running all over your house, throwing your back out, chasing a crawler, then a walker, then a runner, then a monkey who climbs on everything – it just seemed like there was no end to the madness and no equivalent to The Neglectosaucer for older toddlers – until I found out about the water-table.
The water table is like magic. Set it up, fill it with water, and sit back while your kids go to town. Haddie can play at her water table for over an hour, while we sit back and neglect her.
Okay, okay, okay…. She is playing with water, so obviously you can not “neglect” them totally, but it sure keeps them entertained for hours at a time, giving you some time to sit back and relax.
If you don’t own a water table, you should get one. It will be worth it. I am told that kids enjoy it up to past 5 years old.
We have the Step2 Rain Showers Splash Pond Water Table, and it is heaven.
