Winter is coming, so be sure to take advantage of the warm weather with your kids while you still can. Sure, there are many outdoor activities to do with your kids in the winter, but it is just so much easier in nice weather.
We are in the middle of apple season, and taking the kids apple picking is an incredible and fun activity. Not only are you enjoying the outdoors, but it is also a way for us city-folk to teach our kids where food comes from – hint: no, apples don’t come from the store, but are actually grown on trees.
Seeing our kids pick apples, and eat them on the spot was a great treat. Best of all, you don’t need to drive hours to find an apple farm. We went to Carl Laidlaw Orchards, which is only a 30 minute drive from the city.
But wait! There is more than just apples on the farm! There are sunflowers, pigs, a corn maize, a beautiful lunch spot by the rivers, exquisite views, a corn roast, roast your own hot dogs*, and lots of activities for kids.
Sick of just seeing my kids at Carl Laidlaw Orchard? Check out their Instagram page for some awesome shots.
Carl Laidlaw Orchards: I give it 5 stars.**
* Not just any hotdog, but Kirkland’s All Beef Hot Dogs, which are some of the best in the world.***
** This is not a sponsored post for Carl Laidlaw Orchards – we just had an awesome time, and I wanted to share.
*** This is not a sponsored post for Costco, or their Kirkland All Beef Hot Dogs – I just love them so much, and on the apple wood flame, they are even better.
